My Copycat Frenemy Paid the Ultimate Price
Chapter 2
Though I was incredibly wealthy, I was never high-maintenance.
While my friends chased seasonal runway drops, I preferred unique, comfortable, and independent designer pieces. It was this relaxed style that gave Chloe so many opportunities to copy me.
So, the moment I got home, I drove straight to the luxury mall.
I swept through every high-end boutique, buying only the most expensive items. I even had my housekeeper hire the city’s top private tailor to stay at our mansion.
"Elena, do you like this outfit on me?"
The next day, Chloe showed up wearing the exact casual set I had worn yesterday. But when she saw me, her face fell. "Elena... why are you wearing head-to-toe Chanel? That outfit is way too expensive."
I looked up and smiled. "Why? Can't afford it?"
In an instant, Chloe covered her face and burst into tears.
"I know I’m poor, but you don't have to rub your luxury brands in my face just to humiliate me!"
I said nothing. I just watched Carter rush over to comfort her, pointing an angry finger at me. "Elena! How can you be so cruel? I told you about Chloe’s background, and yet you purposely buy these thousand-dollar outfits just to make her feel small!"
Then, he ordered, "From now on, you’re only allowed to buy clothes from outlet sales or local boutiques."
I almost laughed out loud.
I was spending my own money. How did buying luxury clothes translate to bullying the poor?
Ah, I almost forgot. They *needed* to copy me to complete the ritual.
"Well, there are plenty of replica sites online. If she can't afford the real deal, she can buy dupes. After all, she just wants my style, right? The brand shouldn't matter."
Chloe sobbed louder. Just as Carter was about to lecture me again, I cut him off. "Nobody is forcing her to dress like me. If either of you comments on my clothes again, Carter, we are done."
I walked away, leaving them staring at each other in shock.
I knew their little scheme too well. Break up with me? Never.
If Carter wanted to swap Chloe’s miserable fate with mine, I was the only golden goose they had access to.
Sure enough.
Over the next week, Chloe purchased four designer outfits, three luxury bags, and thirteen high-end makeup products, totaling over eighty thousand dollars.
I had my assistant monitor her. I knew she had taken out high-interest personal loans and begged her relatives for money.
She thought she was getting closer to stealing my life. She had no idea that the identical outfits she bought with her blood and sweat were currently being worn by my Beagle.
"Thank you, Mary. These outfits fit Cooper perfectly."
My tailor was currently cutting up my newly arrived designer pieces and turning them into dog vests. Hearing my compliment, she smiled and worked faster. "Of course, Miss Vance. It’s my pleasure."
Since the day I was reborn, Cooper’s wardrobe was updated daily. Even the crystal bracelets I bought were resized to fit his front paw.
A month later, it was my birthday party.
I didn't invite Carter or Chloe, but they crashed it anyway. Chloe even showed up in the exact same designer gown I was wearing.
Brianna pulled me aside, sneering, "That green tea bitch has officially lost her mind. Does she not realize whose party this is?"
I laughed and picked up Cooper, who was wearing the exact same custom mini-gown. "It’s fine."
Chloe thought I was being incredibly generous. She didn't realize my gown was a one-of-a-kind custom piece. The cheap replica she was wearing was actually the exact same fabric and cut as the one on my dog.
As the jazz music played, I overheard Chloe whisper to Carter, "It's almost time."
In my past life, I wouldn't have understood. But today, I was vibrating with anticipation.
The very next second, Chloe suddenly dropped to all fours on the marble floor and let out a loud, frantic bark.
"Woof! Woof! Woof!"
